Frost Free Freezers

Frigidaire Frost Free FreezersFrost free freezers can help people to spend less on food. There are three different types of freezers that are available for use in our household kitchens. Each one of these freezer styles is made for a specific type of food storage chore. Frostless freezers include:

Refrigerator Freezer: The refrigerator freezer is designed to hold frozen foods for short periods of time. As an example, an opened package of frozen peas or box of ice cream bars can be stored in this easy to access location in the kitchen while the products are being used at meal times. Most refrigerator freezers do not contain enough insulating factors to make them an ideal long-term food storage solution. Meats, fruits, and vegetables will often retain their nutritional qualities longer in a full-sized freezing unit. When foods last longer, people save money when their food does not go bad before it is used.

Upright Food Freezer: Frost free freezers come in upright models that look like refrigerators. These styles of frozen food keepers often feature shelving, lighting, and specialized compartments that make it very easy for all of the food to be seen quickly when the door is opened. These are the most popular type of freezer to own. The downside to owning an upright food freezer is that these units are not the most energy efficient models on the market. When the door is opened, a large area of food is exposed to the warmer air entering the unit. After the door is closed, the freezer must use electricity to cool all of the new warm air down quickly. If the door to the freezer is opened often, this can act to raise your electric bill.

Chest or Box Freezers: These energy efficient freezers often hold more food than the upright food freezers because room is not used on shelving. When the power goes out, this type of freezer stays cold the longest. Frost free freezers in this style often last longer than the upright freezers because their motors do not need to do as much work to keep the air cool. Many people will load their food into brown boxes that stack easily when placing it into this type of a freezer. This allows the boxes to be quickly moved to get to the frozen food that is in the bottom of these chests. These are the cheapest form of stand-alone freezer to purchase for families on a budget.

Frost free freezers are the most convenient type of freezer to consider in any style of food cooler that you purchase. It is not good for frozen food to sit out once each month while the non-frost free models are being defrosted. Today, it is possible to find all styles of frost free freezers in a wide variety of sizes to accommodate every type of frozen food need.
